According to Anthony Norris, John Baispoole began to buy land in Barton in 1559, but made his principal purchase of the estates of John Edrich in 1573 and moved to Barton from Beeston in 1580, about which time he purchased the manor of Barton Bury Hall. The estates in Barton remained in the Baispoole family until 1657 when they passed to Henry Baldero, an English merchant in Rotterdam. The Baispooles also held the lordship of the manor of Barton Kybalds from 1573 to 1642.
