Barton Hall had its origins in a farmhouse built in the 1600s. It was later extended and remodelled by various owners. At one time it was owned by the Norris family and later by the Prestons. Among those who lived there was George Matcham and his wife Catherine, sister of Horatio Nelson. It has been in the ownership of the present family since 1943.
