It was formerly known as Bury Hall Farm. The following description is taken from John Yaxley’s A Jam Round Barton Turf :
...so on again to ‘Berry Hall’ farm. This might be a misspelling as old records refer to Barton Bury and Barton Bury Hall. The farm itself belongs to an old Norwich Charity but is worked by father and son of the Drake family who have been in Barton since early 1890s, firstly in ‘Home Farm’, known as Drake’s Little Farm. As the boys grew up they had to work all the time for just bed and board, a common practice in years gone by.
Regrettably there are no livestock on the farm, as at the present time with so many restrictions they are not a viable proposition, and this side of farming has been greatly reduced in this area in the last few years.
But at the roadside is one of the clearest farm pits found locally. Behind are the empty bullock yards, and the best barn left in the village. Further back still are the old cart sheds and stables. To the left are modern steel and asbestos barns to accommodate corn, potatoes and much of the modern machinery of the present age which they use to cultivate and harvest the crops grown. There used to be five men employed years ago on this farm.
