Charles Preston was baptised on 13th January 1645 in Beeston St Lawrence Church. He was the son of Jacob and Frances Preston and the grandson of Jacob Preston, whose widow Thomasine Preston purchased the Beeston Estate in 1640.

Charles was instituted at Beeston St Lawrence Church on 20th March 1670 and became vicar of Barton Turf on 28th March 1671.

He married Mary Baspole, probably in 1673, and they had at least six children, most of whom were baptised in Barton Turf. Charles was buried in Barton Turf in 1714 and his widow remarried Rev. Mathias Earbury in 1715. She died in 1726 and was also buried in Barton Turf.
