Frederick John Reid was born on 14th January 1866. He died on 21st March and was buried on 26th March 1929. Our research suggests that he was born in the Transvaal and married Annie Harriette Farmiloe in Hampstead in 1890. He lived for a time in Sussex and Surrey, before moving to Point House in Barton Turf.

Turning sharp round the corner we come to where the shop front used to be. There lived here at one time Mr F. J. Reid, a distinguished scientist who had one of the first wireless sets in this area. Positioning it near an open window, all who wished could come and listen, and they came, from Barton Turf, Neatishead, Beeston and Smallburgh, gathering outside to hear the music, singing and discussions, even applauding when they thought necessary. When Big Ben struck nine o’clock watches were pulled out, and if required adjusted to the correct time.
