The 1840 Tithe Apportionment provides a wealth of detail about owners and occupiers of land in Barton Turf at the time. It also records field sizes, roads, rivers and land use.
At that time there were about 1004 acres of arable land, 309 acres of meadow or pasture land, 35 acres of woodland, 167 acres of land covered by water and 26 acres of glebe land; 1544 acres in total. Copies of the original tithe agreement and a map are held by the Norfolk Record Office. A transcript has been made by a member of the project team and this has been sorted to facilitate access to the information. The results can be downloaded as PDF documents using the links below.
