Watts 1634 on
Back to People.

There have been Watts families in Barton Turf since at least 1634 when Thomas Watts married Anne Drake.  In 1635 Deborah Watts, daughter of Richard and Jane, was baptised.  Records show Watts families in Barton Turf in the eighteenth, nineteenth and twentieth centuries.

One family became carpenters and shop keepers with James Watts born around 1785 and his son Henry born in 1826 recorded as such in census returns.  Henry’s son and daughter Henry and Elizabeth also continued in the family business.  For more information see the Shops page.

Watts families have connections with many other Barton Turf families including Amys, Cox, Drake and Haylett.  A transcript of the will of Isaac Watts, father of James, who died in 1847 can be viewed as a PDF document on the Norfolk Wills and Probates website.
