John Yaxley was born in Ashmanhaugh around 1800. He married Hannah Watts in Barton Turf in 1828 and was living with his family in Barton Turf in 1841. We have traced nearly 80 Yaxleys descended from him. The Yaxleys are also related by marriage to the Amys, Baldwin, Cox, Salmon-Cox, Shepherd and Watts families. One of his sons became the proprietor of the Hole in the Wall beerhouse. Three Yaxley cousins were killed in the First World War and their names are recorded on the War Memorial.
